Iris,* is ready to attend college next month, after completing her two years of service as the home coordinator for our high school youths at Casa Buen Señor in Cuernavaca. The 21-year-old is a native of the state of Tamaulipas, and is incredibly excited for this next stage of her life!

She will study Accounting and Finances at the UDEM University of Monterrey, where she received a full scholarship for academic excellence.

While talking about her years at NPH, Iris remembers learning many things and has always tried to take advantage of the opportunities to grow that have come to her. One such opportunity was the NPHI Leadership Workshop that took place at the beginning of this year at NPH El Salvador, which she attended as part of a youth delegation from NPH Mexico.

Young men and women from the nine homes of NPH in Latin America and the Caribbean joined the workshop. This particular Leadership Workshop had a special theme: "Who am I?"

"I learned to know myself, and to know what I am good at in regards to serving others. Knowing your strengths helps you to achieve great things to benefit others," says Iris, who also commented on the maturity she gained during the workshop.

The main objective of creating leadership workshops for our youths is that they find a space where they can understand themselves in order to achieve self-fulfillment, so that in the future, they can become the leaders of their generation.

"The fact that NPH allows us to attend international workshops like this is a golden opportunity that we should take advantage of. It is gratifying to meet people like Dr. Maccoby, who inspires us to become great leaders, as well as a better example for our younger brothers and sisters,” says Iris.

"We are people who want to see NPH continuously growing, and we can contribute with experiences that make positive change." Iris is convinced that she wants to work at NPH so that she can contribute from the inside, maybe in fundraising or the with the financial side of the organization.

The greatest contribution of the Leadership Workshop for Iris was to help her better discern her future career, because before attending, she was still doubtful. "I always had a vision about my future, but knowing myself completely makes me feel confident about what I want for my life."

She summarizes her experience at the workshop: "Self-esteem, seeking your fullest potential and service are the three phrases that I highlight from this experience. These are basic words for personal and professional development."
